First Spring Bloom: A Sign of Growth After a Cool, Wet Season

After months of prepping soil, planting seeds, and watching and waiting… the very first tiny bloom has arrived. It may be small, but it’s a sign that all the hard work is starting to pay off. It’s been a wet and cool spring so the flowers just haven’t taken off yet.

This season isn’t turning out as expected, but I am trying to remind myself that the first year is really just a big learning curve for flower farming. I have struggled with growing some varieties (snapdragons & celosia) and I was hoping to have these to really round out the farmstand bouquets. This spring has brought lower-than-average temperatures and frequent rain, most of our plants have been slow to grow. It’s been a test of patience. I don’t think the flower field will really be showing off until July at this point.

But this little cosmo bloom is a sign that we’re heading in the right direction! I am so excited to wake up every morning and go out to the flower field to see what has changed.

Here’s to this little flower and the beauty still to come. Have your flowers started blooming yet this spring? What’s been your biggest gardening challenge so far? Share your experience in the comments—we’d love to hear!
